Lana Del Rey Sets the Mood in New MALEFICENT Trailer

If you were watching the Grammys last evening, you might have noticed a little trailer pop up for Walt Disney Studios’ upcoming film, Maleficent. Not only does the sneak peek reveal an even closer look at the reimagining of a Disney classic, it introduces an eerie cover of Sleeping Beauty’s famous song, “Once Upon a Dream,” by Lana Del Rey.

Maleficent, like several recent popular fairytale movies, tells the story of Sleeping Beauty from the villain’s perspective. Normally I’d be wary of yet another remake, but Maleficent is by far one of Disney’s coolest baddies. Not only can she turn into an actual dragon, she and her sidekick raven share a slick, sassy sense of humor. From the looks of the trailer, Jolie captures Maleficent’s spirit well. Check it out below for a preview of the film’s incredible visual effects, a crazy-eyed Sharlto Copley, and a seriously rad looking dragon.

You have to hand it to Disney; Lana Del Rey’s moody cover fits the tone of the trailer perfectly. “Once Upon A Dream” is free to download via Google Play until Monday, February 3rd.

Maleficent will be released nationwide on May 30, 2014.
