LADY AND THE TRAMP Live-Action Film Coming To Disney’s Streaming Service

Next year, Disney is going to the dogs with two of the company’s most famous canines: Lady and the Tramp. The live-action adaptation of the animated classic film is going to be one of the first original titles for the upcoming Disney streaming service.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lady and the Tramp will be a live-action/CG animated hybrid film that will once again adapt Ward Greene’s Happy Dan, The Whistling Dog. The 1955 animated feature followed the adventures of a pampered Cocker Spaniel named Lady and her unlikely paramour, a street mutt called Tramp. It’s one of the most beloved films from the early Disney lineup, and it features one of the most famous scenes in animation history: Tramp and Lady’s Italian dinner for two.

Animation veteran Charlie Bean will make his live-action directorial debut with Lady and the Tramp. Previously, Bean helmed The LEGO Ninjago Movie and nearly every episode of the Tron: Uprising TV series. Bean also wrote for Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack, so we’re excited to see his take on the characters.

Lady and the Tramp does have some sequel potential, if the new remake finds an audience. Disney’s comics continued the series with Scamp, the son of Lady and the Tramp. There was even a Lady and the Tramp direct-to-video sequel starring Scamp in 2001. We won’t be shocked if history repeats itself.
