Kurt Russell Asked Our Reporter to Be His Father

Ever since the news broke that Kurt Russell would not only be starring in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, but that he would be playing Star-Lord’s father, everyone and their mother has uttered some variation of “I wish Kurt Russell was my father.” I’ve said it, you’ve said, and Chris Pratt has absolutely said it. But now we can do you one better because when our reporter Hector Navarro sat down with Kurt Russell at a recent Guardians of the Galaxy press event in Los Angeles, Russell flipped the script on us. Rather than Hector asking Kurt Russell to be his dad, Russell actually asked Hector to be his father. I’m sure there’s a great deal of time travel involved to make this all official, but that is something I would get printed on my tombstone were I in Hector’s charming shoes.

In addition to paternity pleas, Russell told us about how his longtime makeup artist worked movie magic to show us a far younger Kurt Russell in a Guardians of the Galaxy flashback. Plus, Zoe Saldana gave us the inside scoop on what her toughest critic, her nephew, thought of the first movie, and his reaction when she was first cast in the film. Last, but not least, Karen Gillan and Pom Klementieff discussed how Karen finally managed to avoid looking like a “long baby” in the hotly anticipated superhero sequel.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017. Read our spoiler-free review, and make the wait go by faster by listening to the exclusive Awesome Mix we curated based on suggestions by the stars themselves!
