Krysten Ritter Cast in Marvel’s Upcoming Netflix Series JESSICA JONES

After a fairly long search, Marvel Studios has found their Jessica Jones for the titular Netflix series, and it’s none other than Breaking Bad’s Krysten Ritter! Ritter was one of five actresses for tested for the role, and supposedly  it came down to her and  actress Teresa Palmer. Both did “chemistry reads” with The Following‘s Mike Colter, who seems to be the current front-runner choice for male lead Luke Cage. Luke Cage already has a Netflix series of his own planned to follow up both Daredevil and Jessica Jones, but he’s being introduced first on the Jessica Jones series — presumably as her boyfriend. Since this is an adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis’ Alias comic book series, it’s safe to assume the television version is headed down a similar story track.

The thirteen episode series is being showrun by Melissa Rosenberg, best known for her work on Showtime’s Dexter as well as several of the Twilight movies. The basic premise behind Jessica Jones is that she’s a former superhero who used to go by the code-name “Jewel”, but after several life or death battles she begins suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, which ultimately leads her to giving up the code-name and the costume. She then opens her own detective agency, where she helps ordinary people with superpowered problems, as well as other superheroes who knew her from her costumed adventurer days. No set date has been given for  the Netflix premiere of Jessica Jones, but it will probably be in the latter half of 2015, after Daredevil.

What do you think of the casting? We’re big fans of Krysten Ritter (check her out on the Nerdist Podcast) and can’t wait to see what she brings to the role. But let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

my best friend’s ex-wife gets 81 an hour at home… she has been fired from a job for five months but last month her check was 16736 only working on the internet for a few hours every week. go to this Cash70.com

  2. Going Postal DJ says:

The only thing she has in common with Jessica Jones is that she is a white woman. At least they could have tried to cast an actress that looked reasonably like the part, like they did with Luke Cage.
But she is a good actress, so I will wait and see…

  3. Erich says:

Wow, I was not expecting that… I’m sure she will do a fantastic job, and I’ve had no reason to doubt Marvel’s casting choices up to this point, but she was definitely not my first choice… In fact, of the five actresses, she was my 5th choice. BUT HEY, if Marvel likes her and wants her for the part, Then I am on board!!

  4. Justin says:

I like Krysten Ritter, but I’m not sure about in this role. Not what I imagined for Jessica Jones. I’ll wait until I see it for judgement though.
