Kristin Chenoweth, manic pixie human-slash-live action Tinkerbell, has joined the Disney Channel movie Descendants as Maleficent. The Sleeping Beauty villain sends her daughter, Mal (Dove Cameron), to a snooty private school to rub elbows and who knows what else with the kids of other Disney villains and heroes. Expect to see the sons and daughters of Cruella de Vil, Jafar, Belle and the Beast, Mulan, Fairy Godmother, and Rapunzel.
Descendants will be an official DCOM – that’s Disney Channel Original movie, for those of you who didn’t spend the early 2000s at sleepovers watching Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century, Halloweentown , and erstwhile Kardashian-girlfriend Adrienne Bailon in The Cheetah Girls. Kenny Ortega, he of High School Musical fame, will direct. The movie goes into production for a 2015 release.

sorta sounds like “happily ever after” high, it’s the show with the children of famous-an infamous fairy tale characters… but good thing Disney’s better…
It’s not like the Jolie/Chenoweth characters are in the same “universe.” One is a motion picture for the big screen and the other is a freakin’ Disney Channel movie. Have you seen those before?
I’m curious to see how Disney is going to play this DCOM, though. I haven’t watched one in a while, but it’ll be interesting to see our favorite villains in a new way 🙂
Angelina Jolie will still be in Maleficent as the lead, this is a separate movie on the Disney Channel.
How can you go from having Angelina Jolie playing Maleficent to having Kristen Chenoweth?!? Two different vocal ranges, two different height extremes, two very different acting extremes…I just cannot see her as Maleficent. I can’t even picture her as a villain, honestly. They described her best as a manic pixie…she should be Tinkerbell or a fairy of some sort.
