KONG: SKULL ISLAND Trailer Breakdown!

After months of waiting, we finally got an awesome new trailer for Kong: Skull Island, and it did not disappoint! Not only did the new footage drop us into this new timeline, it also gave us several memorable glimpses of King Kong‘s destructive power and his even more impressive size. But this King Kong’s got a whole island of giant monsters to deal with, and today’s Nerdist News is opening up the Monarch files for a breakdown of the trailer. “King Kong ain’t got nothing on me!”

Join Nerdist News host and Candy Apple Island survivor, Jessica Chobot, as she takes us on a tour through the most memorable moments from the trailer. Welcome to the ’70s! First up, the footage gave us a better introduction to the doomed team that came to Skull Island, including Brie Larson‘s photojournalist, Tom Hiddleston‘s heroic soldier, John Goodman‘s government agent of Monarch, and Samuel L. Jackson as the leader of U.S. Army members on Skull Island…and their numbers are dropping drastically.

Not even an army helicopter can stand up to Kong, who seems to be pretty damn big in this incarnation. And if it’s not King Kong trying to kill you, it’s the assortment of other monsters like the freakin’ giant ox, a huge spider straight from our nightmares, and the Skull-crawlers. Who needs dinosaurs when you’ve got these creatures on tap? We’re also loving Kong’s throwback facial features, which seem to invoke the very first King Kong film.

The most surprising thing here is that the trailer is clearly setting up a fight between Jackson’s surviving soldiers, and the scientists led by Hiddleston and Larson’s characters. Even if they can get past an angry, burning Kong and everything else that wants to kill them, humans may still be the deadliest creatures on the island. We’ll learn more when Kong: Skull Island roars into theaters on Friday, March 10, 2017.
