Kobe Bryant Stars in Kooky GHOSTBUSTERS Commercial with Spike Lee

Kobe Bryant has always been cognizant of life after basketball, and never so much as when a serious Achilles injury had him laid up at home for months in 2013. “There is [sic] only so many Modern Family episodes a person can watch,” he told ESPN. Soon after, Bryant founded Kobe Inc. and started thinking about life after retirement… which finally happened following the 2015-2016 season. The brand investment company isn’t taking up all of the Lakers superstar’s time, though; he’s also leading a cohort of Ghostbusting NBA players.

In anticipation of the Ghostbusters sequel in July, the Universal film’s official Twitter account (ditto director Paul Feig) tweeted a whacky commercial that features Spike Lee and various NBA players busting some ghosts. After New York Knicks stars Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis watch a basketball get ghosted away inside Madison Square Garden, Lee informs them that “this place is haunted by the greats.” Enter Walt “Clyde” Frazier (one of said greats). The foursome then suits up and zaps Slimer, who’s chowing down on some food in the bleachers. If nothing else, it’s nice to see that the Knicks have finally found something to do during the playoffs.

After a Marvel-esque message of “Meanwhile in the Western Conference,” we find ourselves in a posh office at Kobe Inc., where the Mamba is informed of the ghost invasion. He suits up, hops in a chopper, and heads off to tackle all the green ghouls flying around. He leaves us with one final line: “They said retirement was going to be boring.”

Even without this latest ghostbusting gig, when you can retire at 37 worth $350 million, life is probably never going to be boring.

Ghostbusters is out July 15–let us know what you think of the commercial in the comments below.
