KINGDOM HEARTS III Release Date Announced and RATATOUILLE Revealed

The Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World Tour kicked off in Los Angeles on Saturday night ahead of E3 Expo. Director Tetsuya Nomura stopped by the incredible, moving concert featuring the work of the game’s composer Yoko Shimomura with some special announcements about Kingdom Hearts III (KH3), while saying more news would come at E3. Nomura confirmed the release date for the game and apologized that it’s a bit later than planned. Kingdom Hearts III will be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on January 29, 2019.

He shared a brief video sneak peek of KH3, too, including a look at Riku, Roxas’ friends in Traverse Town, a sequence in Corona that looked like a mini-game with Rapunzel, a newly revealed attraction ability featuring the carousel, and a glimpse of Remy from Ratatouille pulling on Sora’s hair and controlling his actions. It’s unknown if the scene is from an entire Ratatouille themed world—could you imagine killing Heartless in the Pixar movie’s France setting?!—or more of a sidequest area, like Hundred Acre Wood has been in past games, or a set-up scene for a Summons/Link with Remy. Whatever it is, I’m on board for having the most talented rodent chef I know in the game.

The concert featured familiar themes and medleys tying the many Kingdom Hearts games and their characters together, and the orchestra also played a new piece from KH3, “Toy Story Medley.” The music included pieces of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from the film and battle music from the upcoming game. We went hands-on in Toy Story World

What do you think about the release date? Is it much later than you anticipated? Share your thoughts in the comments.
