Everybody loves watching a nice cooking video. There is just something weirdly soothing about watching a talented chef or baker tackle a fun and interesting recipe in a minute and a half. Seeing them expertly craft the ingredients into a tasty treat is nothing short of mesmerizing. But the thing is, that in the age of the internet, we’re all looking for that next best thing. Sure, cooking videos are great, but we need something bigger. Fancier designs, more complicated bakes, and definitely weirder ingredients.
Taking this idea to heart, the culinary evil geniuses at Shared Food made a super bold choice and invented a ketchup cake topped with mustard icing. Because apparently, when people were putting ketchup and mustard on their burgers or fries, someone thought “You know what else this stuff would go well with? Cake!”
In the immortal words of Jeff Goldblum, “Your bakers were so preoccupied with whether or not they could put ketchup and mustard in a cake, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” I’m pretty sure that’s how the quote goes.
Regardless, our friends at Laughing Squid first tipped us off to this video, and we’re not sure if we should thank them or stop talking to them forever. Because this is nothing short of horrifying. While I’ll just make my personal, official statement “WHY” and “NO” and “PLEASE GOD WHY NO” in regards to this cake, you do have to admire the culinary creativity that went into trying to make ketchup and mustard work in a cake setting. Then again, lots of unexpected things can be tasty (or at least passably edible) if you add enough sugar, right?
Have you ever tried a cake like this? Would you try this one? What are your condiment cake thoughts? Let us know in the comments!
