Keeping up with Kojima–A Look at His PlayStation World Tour

It’s been nearly a year since reports concerning Hideo Kojima‘s departure from Konami hit the web alongside the news of Silent Hills’ cancellation. Since March of last year, fans of Kojima-san have been watching and speculating about where the famous developer was headed next. Would he snag an exclusive spot with another studio, or would he go the independent route?

It didn’t take long to get our answer. Last month, he not only revealed that he’d formed a studio, but that his first title would be a PlayStation console exclusive. Kojima is apparently wasting no time, and is currently on a Sony world tour with PS4 architect Mark Cerny.

It all started when Cerny launched his own Twitter account.

His first tweet (above) announced that he’d be going on a 10-day trip with Hideo Kojima. Kojima elaborated on his own twitter account, that the goal is to check out the latest tech. We reported on his trip to check out the performance capture tech used in titles like The Last of Us, and The Order: 1886 earlier this week, but the fun doesn’t stop there.

He then hung out with J.J. Abrams to inform him about his new studio. No big deal.

Seeing as Abrams supported Metal Gear Solid V‘s production, and has gotten into the video game industry via his company Bad Robot to work on an action strategy game called Spyjinx, the visit makes sense. Though there’s no telling what they discussed, we can’t help but wonder what a Kojima-developed Star Wars game would look like.

Next, he took a trip up to Washington to see the folks at Sucker Punch (Infamous, Sly Cooper):

He also visited Bend Studio:

Kojima-san may not have found out Star Wars secrets from Abrams, but he certainly found out what Bend has been working on. I guess the rest of us will just have to keep on speculating until they finally unveil the project.

He of course visited SCEA headquarters:

And visited the music team while he was there:

He’s currently in London, visiting with musician Midge Ure.

With a few days left of their adventure, we’re excited to see where the duo end up. I’m guessing they’ll be hitting London Studio, and Media Molecule sometime soon, and will eventually make it to Japan. Though I’m not sure what Kojima-san is taking away from the trip, Sony is certainly making him feel welcome.

Where do you reckon he’ll go next? Let us know in the comments below!
