Since the world first laid eyes on Keanu the kitten, the star of the new action comedy of the same name starring Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, it’s safe to say, we were in love. Now the time has finally come for the world to experience the film starring beloved comedians Key and Peele and their adorable furry friend. The comedy dream team star as cousins Clarence and Rell and when Peele’s Rell has his beloved kitten catnapped, the hopelessly straight-laced pair must impersonate ruthless killers in order to infiltrate a street gang and retrieve the purloined feline.
Nerdist had the opportunity to sit down with the delightful duo and talk about what it was like to become action movie stars–a term they were very happy with, by the way–and make a throwback film in the vein of New Jack City or Tango & Cash. We also discussed comedy with a bit of commentary thrown in and what kind of genre they’d like to jump into next, provided they keep working together, of course… (Very likely). Don’t be surprised if you see the comedy team taking on an Agatha Christie thriller, science fiction epic, or an old school Western. Based on what we’ve seen from Keanu, sign us right up!
Keanu, written by Jordan Peele & Alex Rubens, directed by Peter Atencio, and starring Jordan Peele, Keegan-Michael Key, Tiffany Haddish, Method Man, Jason Mitchell, with Luis Guzman, Nia Long and Will Forte, is in theaters now.
