KB TOYS Could Return to Replace TOYS ‘R’ US

While kids–and lets be honest, lots of adults (:raises hand:)–are still mourning the demise of Toys ‘R’ Us, which will soon close all of its stores, it looks like another old favorite childhood haunt could be returning to take its place. Because like a glorious phoenix, which we imagine also transforms into a really cool race car, KB Toys might be making a comeback to fill the void.

Strategic Marks LLC founder Ellia Kassoff posted on LinkedIn they are “bringing back” the former shopping mall toy store, which closed for good in 2009. (Guess who bought the rights to KB Toys brands and assets back then. Yup, Toys ‘R’ Us, because this is the toy circle of life.) As of now Kassoff says they are studying why KB Toys “initially failed” so they can “make sure those mistakes won’t be made again.” That’s why plans for what the new incarnation of the company will look like are still in the early stages, though they hope to return before the Christmas season.

“Many of you asked what our plans will be and all we can say is we spent the last six months working on a sustainable model to bring back KB Toys the right way so it can compete with not only the big box stores but on-line as well.”

But while many will be thrilled about what this means for their toy collection, the best news might be what this could mean for the nearly 33,000 Toys ‘R’ Us employees who will soon be out of work, because KB is already asking for them to send in resumes.

“…we’re not just restarting the only other well-known and loved toy chain in the US but hope to find places for those 33,000 jobs which will be lost as Toys R Us closes.”

Hey, it’s not Christmas morning, right? Cause it certainly feels like it is.
