Oh hell yes! It looks like Sir Ridley Scott is getting all old school on us, with the latest image from his Alien: Covenant recalling the greatest warrior woman in film history–the original Alien‘s Ripley! Also in today’s Movie Morsels, a Rogue One featurette focusing on everyone’s favorite new droid K-2SO, plus an update on Martin Scorsese‘s next project and more!
Alien: Covenant
Entertainment Weekly has a little holiday stocking stuffer for Alien fans this week. We’ve already seen the first Alien film’s space jockey aboard his derelict ship in a photo from next year’s prequel Alien: Covenant. And now we have ourselves proof positive that returning director Ridley Scott is intent on keeping his promise to deliver a bona fide horror film like his original masterwork. Its leading lady, Katherine Waterston, looks an awful lot like Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley in the film’s latest pic…

In an interview with the magazine, Waterston remarks of Scott, “Heâs a master! Heâs got the energy of 10 25-year-olds.” Adding, of course, that the filmmaker is also “sadistic. He loves the thought of making people scream in a cinema.â
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
C-3PO may be colored gold, but is there a single person who saw Rogue One last weekend who didn’t fall in love with its cranky droid with a heart of gold? Alan Tudyk’s CG-animated K-2SO steals damn near every scene he’s in, without once capitalizing on our nostalgia for the original Star Wars trilogy’s robots. Lucasfilm and Disney clearly knew they had a new icon on their hands, because they’ve just released a behind-the-scenes video they prepared on the former Imperial security droid, featuring the man who brought him to life so fantastically…
The Irishman
Hey, speaking of Rogue One… Those of you who’ve already seen it know that the film takes full advantage of the latest digital technology to recreate a character or two from the original Star Wars films, “de-aging” them in the process. That’s something director Martin Scorsese hopes to do with Robert De Niro when he finally reunites with his legendary collaborator on his next film, The Irishman. A biopic about mob hitman Frank âThe Irishmanâ Sheeran–who admitted to playing a role in the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa–the movie will span Sheeran’s life. Well, we’ve already seen De Niro act like a much younger man, in last year’s Dirty Grandpa (pictured above). Now we’ll get to see him look like one too.
Speaking with Cinema Blend about Scorsese’s current film Silence, producer Gaston Pavlovich commented, “Imagine seeing what De Niro looked like in The Godfather: Part II days, thatâs pretty much how youâre going to see him again.”
War on Everyone
Last but not least today… We’ve got the trailer for what could be the quirkiest buddy cop/crime caper comedy since, well, this year’s The Nice Guys. War on Everyone stars two of my favorite working actors, Michael Pena and Alexander Skarsgard, as good cops gone extremely rogue, with Theo James and Tessa Thompson lending support. Enjoy!
