Kanye West is a man of few words… but those words are mostly variations of “I am the greatest creative genius”. He said them for 13 minutes at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, and while he spoke for a long time, he didn’t say much. Well alright, he announced his candidacy for President of the United States in the 2020 election — looks like Donald Trump’s presidency might last just one term — but beyond that, he mused about the mysteries of impermanent concert stages.
His rant actually had some of the timing and cadences of a stand-up comedy routine… specifically, a Jerry Seinfeld bit… more specifically, a Jerry Seinfeld monologue that would start an episode of Seinfeld. @Seinfeld2000 agreed, and now we have the amazing video below:

Over the course of his discography, Kanye has had some amazing backing tracks over which to speak his truth, but the Seinfeld bass and mouth pops may be the tightest instrumental of all. time. The effect is beautiful, but even with the mash-up, Macklemore still doesn’t seem to get it. Also, Kanye seems to think there is a stage at a baseball game.
This wasn’t @Seinfeld2000’s only spot-on tweet about the VMAs, as the account was on fire all night:
