If it’s ever late at night and you find yourself in Gardner, a small city of about 19,000 people in eastern Kansas, we’d recommend that you to stay away from Celebration Park, because it was recently discovered that once the sun goes down, it gets super weird over there.
The local police got word of a mountain lion sighting in the park, so to verify the claim and make sure the area was safe, they set up a couple of trail cameras, which take a photo when a motion sensor is set off and are often used by hunters and scientists to determine if there is any wildlife in the area.
“We are glad to report that over the time they were up we did not see a mountain lion,” Chief of Police James Pruetting wrote on the Gardner Police Department Facebook page. “We were however surprised by some of the images that the cameras did take.”
The post was accompanied by some of those images, and it looks like mountain lions are the least of the area’s problems. Apparently, at least a few citizens got word of the trail cameras, and one of them decided to put on their absolutely nightmare-inducing gorilla costume in an effort to make sure that Gardner PD won’t get a good night’s sleep for a while. Aside from the gorilla and some actual wildlife, the cameras also spotted a ninja in a ghilly suit, a knife-wielding senior citizen, Man Bear Pig, and Santa Claus.
Thankfully, the department has a good sense of humor:
We now have another different concern. We are attempting to identify some of the wildlife and activity in these images.
We would like to sincerely thank the persons responsible as it made our day when we pulled up what we expected to be hundreds of pictures of coyotes, foxes and raccoons. Thank you to the citizens who noticed the cameras. Your effort and sense of humor are greatly appreciated.
This seems like good fun, but we’re more convinced that there’s a portal to the Upside Down from Stranger Things in the park, so perhaps the Gardner Police Department should take their jobs more seriously and see if their compasses are behaving normally. Check out the post for yourself above or here.
