Before they were the scourge of the internet, trolls were lovable little wild-haired dolls that used to adorn desks and bedrooms everywhere. Well, Dreamworks Animation will look to return the name of those little dolls to good standing with an animated musical titled Trolls, and theyâve just signed Justin Timberlake to star opposite Anna Kendrick as the two main characters.
Timberlake will voice Branch, a âhardcore survivalistâ and Kendrick will voice Princess Poppy. Timberlake and Kendrick seem like perfect fits for a kid’s musical. Timberlake is a nine-time Grammy-winning musical artist whose acting resume has a number of big success, and Anna Kendrick is a Tony-nominated actress who recently played Cinderella in the movie adaptation of the musical Into the Woods. Plus they are just both really, really charming.
Troll dolls were invented in 1959 by Thomas Dam, who, unable to afford a Christmas present for his daughter, carved her one based on Scandanavian troll myths. If you were around in the 90s you know what that simple gift turned into.
The movie is scheduled for November 4Â in 2016 and will be co-directed by Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn, both of whom have worked on the Shrek franchise. (Not to mention Mitchell directed Sky High, the sneaky greatest kidâs movie of all-time.)
So who else would you like to see join the cast? Give us your best suggestions and if theyâre pitch perfect maybe theyâll be considered good enough to be a troll.
