Tormund Giantsbane to Rule the Seven Seas in JUSTICE LEAGUE

Khal Drogo isn’t the only hirsute Game of Thrones badass to be playing an Atlantean in Justice League!

While on the London set of Justice League—a trip in which Nerdist took part—IGN confirmed that Game of Thrones star Kristofer Hivju (better known as Tormund Giantsbane or the redheaded face of Wyndham Hotels) has joined the cast of the DC Comics team-up movie in a small role. The Norwegian actor’s presence in the film was confirmed by concept art appearing on the wall of a production office, which labeled his character as an ancient Atlantean king.

Editor’s note: potential spoilers for the Justice League movie ahead, so read on at your own peril.

In Justice League, Batman and Wonder Woman must assemble the rest of Earth’s metahumans in order prevent Steppenwolf and his army of Parademons from harnessing the power of three Mother Boxes, ancient alien supercomputers with immense powers, for evil. The three Mother Boxes have been on Earth for thousands of years, divvied up between the Amazonians, Atlanteans, and ancient humans, hidden from prying eyes to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands. Namely the hands of Apokoliptian forces. Presumably, Hivju’s character would be that of the ancient Atlantean king to whom one of the Mother Boxes was entrusted.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Mother Box on screen in the DC Extended Universe either. In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, when Wonder Woman watches trailers for the next several years of DC movies, we see Cyborg in the Red Room. The mysterious device that transforms Ray Fisher’s ravaged body into the techno-organic hero Cyborg is, in fact, a Mother Box. No word yet on whether the Dr. Pepper strategically placed in the front right-hand corner of those scenes will come into play, but something tells me that at least one of those 36 flavors can only be found on Apokolips.

So, there you have it folks! Now, we just need to add Gwendoline Christie as a badass Amazonian queen so we can make Tarthbane transcend fandoms.

What if Game of Thrones were a Tormund/Brienne rom-com?
