Will JURASSIC WORLD 2 Lead Us To a JURASSIC WAR?

Early next year, the cameras are gonna roll on the set of Jurassic World 2, as J.A. Bayona takes over the director’s chair from Colin Trevorrow, who co-wrote the upcoming sequel. For months, Trevorrow has promised that the next film in that franchise won’t be just another trip to an island where humans are trapped with hungry, deadly dinosaurs. Now, Bayona is hinting that the sequel may actually tie into the earlier Jurassic Park movies as well. Today’s Nerdist News is consulting with Mr. DNA to break down our latest Jurassic theories!

During a press event for his new movie, A Monster Calls, Bayona told Cinemablend that, “what we’re doing is a sequel to Jurassic World, but it’s definitely the fifth chapter of a longer saga. It’s very interesting. It’s always tricky, but you need to find a balance in what people expect to find, and the new stuff you’re bringing to the story. And I think the story is looking for a connection between Jurassic World and Jurassic Park — more than what Jurassic World did.”

Is the return of Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm, and Ellie Sattler too much to hope for? We know that Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be back as Owen and Claire, respectively, and we’d love to see them share the screen with Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern. But perhaps Bayona only meant that the fifth film would be a thematic continuation of the franchise. But what would that be like?

Trevorrow has been dropping hints that the ability to create a dinosaur may go open source, and we can’t help but notice that Dr. Wu got off the island with a lot of dinosaur embryos. But Jurassic World also seemed to indicate that there was interest in weaponizing the dinosaurs, especially from the late Vic Hoskins. If there’s nothing left to stop anyone from creating a dinosaur soldier, and Dr. Wu’s possibly/maybe started the widespread ability to clone dinos, then Hoskins’ dream may come true and we may have a Jurassic World War on our hands!
