JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE is Getting a Sequel

Prior to last year, it was anyone’s guess how Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle could possibly compare to the classic Jumanji starring Robin Williams. However, the sequel has proved its worth, topping the weekend box office several weeks after it was released. Naturally, Sony is going forward with another Jumanji movie, and the Welcome to the Jungle creative team may remain intact.

The Wrap is reporting that director Jake Kasdan is likely to return for the next Jumanji sequel, and negotiations are currently underway with Welcome to the Jungle screenwriters Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner to remain as well. Although the story doesn’t indicate that Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, and Nick Jonas will also come back for the sequel, it stands to reason that they will. Their chemistry made the film, and it would be a mistake to abandon that.

The real question about the sequel is whether the younger members of the cast, Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blain, and Morgan Turner, will also return. Because the adult cast played video game avatars subbing in for the younger stars’ characters within the world of the game itself, it leaves the door open for the veteran performers to portray new personas in the sequel.

Even the (and here lie some major spoilers!) apparent destruction of the Jumanji game in the closing seconds of the movie shouldn’t prove to be a major hurdle. If a board game can reconfigure itself into a video game overnight then it should be able to restore itself yet again.

What do you want to see in the next Jumanji sequel? The game isn’t over until you leave a comment below!
