Joss Whedon Shares a Hilarious Video about Voting with Every Famous Person Ever

Some days it feels like we need the Avengers to show up and save the day IRL. Apparently Joss Whedon feels the same way, and with a sudden return to Twitter, he has shared a star-studded cast of actor friends (including Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Keegan-Michael Key, Yvette Nicole Brown, Leslie Odom Jr., Neil Patrick Harris, Martin Sheen) urging us to take action on November 8 and vote.

Whedon’s video is the first effort of his recently announced Save The Day initiative, which is a creative collective/production company whose primary purpose is to raise awareness around the popular vote for the presidential election. The above video perfectly blends sincerity and tongue-in-cheek self awareness about its PSA tactic to gather a “just a shit-ton” (lol, Julianne Moore) of famous people to urge you to vote. While they very cleverly make fun of themselves and the paradigm of celebrities asking you to vote, they make really salient points regarding just how important it is to vote during this election cycle. As Taran Killam and Randall Park explain: “You only get this many famous people together if the issue is one that truly matters…”

While Whedon’s video clearly takes jabs at Donald Trump (Don Cheadle really goes in), the point of the video is to get out there and participate however you see fit. Plus, if we do, Whedon promises that Mark Ruffalo will do a nude scene in his next movie. That part of the PSA goes something like this:

“If you do vote” – Leslie Odom Jr

“Mark will do a nude…scene in his next movie?” – Mark Ruffalo

“Mark Ruffalo will do a nude scene in his next movie.” – Julianne Moore, Neil Patrick Harris, and James Franco

“Wait, what, what? – Mark Ruffalo

“Mark’s gonna have his dick out.” – Robert Downey Jr.

But dick jokes aside, we really enjoyed the basic message of this video. Though we here at Nerdist are not here to preach, sometimes it is important to connect the world of film and TV to things that legitimately matter to us. So, regardless of where your partisanship falls and what ideologies you value most, we agree with Whedon’s most basic exhortation to vote.

Also, maybe we’ll get to see Mark Ruffalo naked if we get out there and do our civic duty? America is pretty cool!
