Exclusive Details on Jon Favreau’s STAR WARS TV Series

Lucasfilm threw a big bash in Hollywood this week for the world premiere of Solo: A Star Wars Story. A replica Millennium Falcon loomed over Hollywood Blvd., and familiar faces from every Star Wars era attended. We were present, too. Nerdist Senior Editor Dan Casey talked to director Jon Favreau and got the early scoop on his upcoming Star Wars live-action TV series. Today’s Nerdist News is all about the exclusive details we got about this new Star Wars project straight from Favreau.

Join host and Imperial infiltration droid, Jessica Chobot, as she runs down the footage of Dan’s interview with Favreau. Much to our surprise, Favreau opened up and revealed he actually wrote four scripts while making his pitch to Disney and Lucasfilm. Those samples must have been well received, because Favreau is now overseeing the flagship series of the upcoming Disney streaming service.

More importantly, Favreau told us when the series takes place within the Star Wars timeline. It’s going to be set seven years after the Battle of Yavin, which was depicted in A New Hope. That should place it around three years after Return of the Jedi, which is also after the Battle of Jakku officially ended the war with the Empire.

This is largely uncharted territory for the franchise, aside from a few novels and video games in the current storytelling universe. While we probably won’t see many of the key Star Wars players from the original trilogy, there’s always a possibility they could show up. Favreau has a huge playground to explore, and we’re bound to get a new cast of characters to follow when the series premieres. We’re eagerly awaiting further updates as it moves towards production.
