Jon Bernthal’s Tweet Takes Us Into the Punisher’s World

Yes, we here at Nerdist are beyond excited for the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil series on Netflix. No, we have not been subtle about it ever since the first season dropped back in April. One of the most exciting parts of the upcoming series, of course, will be seeing The Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal take on the role of the violent anti-hero known as The Punisher. This past week, he offered the world a glimpse into the world of Frank Castle with a quick behind-the-scenes look at his wall of guns.

What so many, including myself, loved about the first season of Daredevil was the show’s dedication to remaining true to the character and the comic book series, as well as a darker and more mature concept, while also keeping pace with the more child-friendly cinematic universe they’ve established. This picture is enough to show that the second season is looking to keep a pretty close tie to the comic book Punisher we’ve seen.

Yeah, that guy. Anyone who has seen the first two seasons of The Walking Dead or any of the TNT mini-series Mob City knows just how Jon Bernthal can play the dangerous, commanding, gun-toting powder keg pretty convincingly. Basically a man who has played The Punisher without being officially handed the skull t-shirt until now. At least the crew of Daredevil decided it would make more sense to have Frank’s collection of equalizers on a more logically functioning peg-wall instead of just magically floating on a tile wall. I’m still just waiting to see The Skull, but if season two plays out like season one, I will have to journey through all 13 episodes before that becomes a reality.

I personally would love to see the show depict a highly tactical and calculated version of Frank, as I outlined in my piece from back in April, which is a bit different than the character for which Bernthal is known. Now that I know he is in fact going to be on the show, I will be happy with whatever they offer up.

How about you? What do you think Bernthal’s Punisher will be like? Let us know in the comments below.
