Johnny Weir Has Brought THE HUNGER GAMES to the Olympics

Odds are that Johnny Weir’s Winter Olympic fashion won’t find him much favor in the games’ host country of Russia, but he certainly will with fans of The Hunger Games. The retired figure skater is donning some serious Capitol-inspired couture while commentating on the icy goings-on in Sochi, and according to an interview with Philadelphia Magazine, he’s picked Stanley Tucci’s Caesar Flickerman to be his spirit mockingjay.

“I decided to go more of Stanley Tucci’s character from The Hunger Games,” Weir said. “I’m trying to stay between the lines of Johnny on Skating with the Stars and the rest of the NBC men’s family in Brooks Brothers.” And by the looks of his Instagram account, some of these looks would cause the greatest of envy amongst the Capitol’s elite:

Weir, an openly gay athlete, had recently come under fire in recent months for supporting the Olympics even with Russia’s recent passing of an anti-gay bill into law. But that hasn’t stopped him from condemning the laws themselves while also taking pride in his “crazy dress sense” and general demeanor, something the network supports, even in the middle of a very controversial set of winter games. “NBC has been asking me since Vancouver to be a part of their team, and those conversations have been very open,” Weir explained. “They’ve understood that I’m clever, I’m very flamboyant.” It’s almost as if he’s volunteered as Tribute.
