You never know how badly you want to see Superman smash a robot ape to bits until you see it in glorious color.

That’s the magic of John Romita Jr., who’s taking over art duties with June’s Superman #25, and Entertainment Weekly has a look at his first issue on the series. Romita is pairing up with Geoff Johns to kick off the new “Man of Tomorrow” arc, which introduces a new character who has a very similar origin story to that of the Man of Steel.

This is being billed as Romita Jr.’s (who’s bringing along longtime collaborator Klaus Janson) first work for DC after a lengthy stint at Marvel working on the likes of Daredevil, Wolverine, and Secret Avengers (EW blames the jump to a contract dispute with the Captain America publisher).

While I’m wondering if this might open the door for Romita Jr. on one of the Bat-titles (or better still, let’s get him on one of DC’s cosmic-tinged titles), Superman with Johns seems like a good fit for the kind of blockbuster, big, loud storytelling that I’ve come to love from Romita Jr.
