John Carpenter Performs ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Theme

We’ve been singing the praises of John Carpenter on this website for years, as has probably any other website worth a fig. The filmmaker not only has made some of the best horror/action/sci-fi movies of all time, but he did the scores for most of them, too! And they’re all pretty great, employing driving beats and synthesizer riffs to brilliant effect. Carpenter is about to go on tour for his latest album of original work, Lost Themes II, but patrons can expect to see and hear some classics too, including this video for the Escape from New York theme.

That theme, along with the original score album for the 1981 sci-fi flick, became bestsellers and remain some of Carpenter’s most beloved pieces. To commemorate his film score work, and for something fun for fans, Carpenter and his bandmates–son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies–have re-recorded the themes to four of the master’s best loved films. In addition to Escape from New York, they’ve also re-recorded The Fog, Assault on Precinct 13, and perhaps his most indelible piece of music, Halloween.

The tunes will be released in 12″ double-A-side vinyl versions beginning June 17 from Sacred Bones Records. Halloween and Escape are on one and Assault and Fog are on the other. That’s a really good mix of horror on one side, action on the other. Also, exclusively at his live tour dates, special red and blue vinyl editions will be sold. And to find out his full list of tour dates (which are very extensive and include stops both at home and abroad) check John Carpenter’s official website.
