Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross Cover John Carpenter’s HALLOWEEN Theme

It may be Friday the 13th, but Jason Voorhees isn’t the slasher on our minds. Instead, we’re thinking about Michael Myers, the horror icon who made his debut in John Carpenter‘s Halloween almost 40 years ago. Michael Myers has become synonymous with Carpenter’s unforgettable theme from the movie, and now that brilliantly chilling piece of music is getting a modern spin by Nine Inch NailsTrent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

While the natural assumption is that this cover is from Carpenter’s upcoming album, Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Reznor and Ross’ cover is much longer than the Halloween track that appears on the record, and it also takes a few liberties with the original music. However, it still captures the essence of the piece, and it would probably work well in the soundtrack for the recently announced Halloween sequel, which will feature Jamie Lee Curtis once again reprising her role as Laurie Strode.

Fans can download Reznor and Ross’ Halloween cover via Amazon, Google Play, and iTunes by visiting this link. On October 20th, music lovers will get their chance to listen to more of Carpenter’s signature creations when Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998 is officially released. For the new album, Carpenter recorded updated versions of his tracks from In the Mouth of Madness, They Live, Escape from New York, Big Trouble in Little China, The Thing, and more. Carpenter is also going on tour to promote the record, starting with a concert in Las Vegas at The Joint on October 29th.
