Oh, that John Barrowman. Isn’t he just a peach? The man widely known as either Malcolm Merlyn or Captain Jack Harkness (depending on your fandom) has long been a fan favorite in the genre world and beyond, gaining cultlike status on the convention circuit. (Because who loves Doctor Who and doesn’t love Captain Jack?) And with the recent news that the actor would become a recurring character across every single one of Greg Berlanti’s superhero showsâincluding Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrowâwe had a lot of questions (and dreams we needed fulfilled, specifically of the musical variety).
In between hosting duties at FanExpo in Toronto, we had the chance to talk to Barrowman about his seemingly unending list of projects in the Berlantiverse, his desire to return to the TARDIS and battle Daleks with Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, and his even bigger wish: to have a spin-off series with River Song (a.k.a. Alex Kingston)âwhich we could not be more in favor of, for what it’s worth. We even pondered the likelihood of Captain Jack showing up on Class, because we’re not afraid to give the people what they want (and what they want is more Jack).
What song would you like to see Malcolm Merlyn sing in the Supergirl/The Flash musical episode? Have any fan fiction Steven Moffat and/or Chris Chibnall should consider for Captain Jack’s return to Doctor Who? Let us know in the comments below!
Speaking of TV, here are 15 shows we couldn’t be more excited about this fall:
