John Barrowman Brings TORCHWOOD Back In New Comic Book Series

Titan Comics has already featured Captain Jack Harkness in the Ninth Doctor ongoing Doctor Who comic book series, but now it’s time for Captain Jack to once again reform Torchwood! And who better to write Captain Jack’s new adventures than Captain Jack himself, John Barrowman?

Barrowman and his sister, Carole E. Barrowman will write the new ongoing Torchwood series, with  Antonio Fuso and Pasquale Qualano as the artists. The Torchwood comics will be in continuity with the Big Finish Torchwood audio dramas. The two surviving Torchwood members, Captain Jack and Gwen Cooper, will both star in the new series. And if the covers are any indication, Gwen’s husband, Rhys will also be back in the mix, whether he likes it or not!

Titan’s description of the Torchwood comic also suggests that Captain Jack and Gwen have some lingering tension after their last meeting.

“Captain Jack return to Cardiff to engage the help of the last person who expected to see him again, Gwen Cooper! A dark technology from a forgotten species has been claimed by a conspiratorial power… and in this collision between an ancient civilization and an all-new evil, the Earth itself may be forfeit! Only Jack, Gwen, and their allies from what remains of Torchwood hold the key to stopping a cataclysmic wave of destruction… On the road, on the run, and under fire – can Jack and Gwen put aside their differences and rebuild the heart of Torchwood… before its flame is stamped out forever?!”

Titan Comics also passed along the Torchwood # 1 covers by Tommy Lee Edwards, Elena Casagrande, Blair Shedd, and Rod Reis, all of which you can see in our gallery below.

Torchwood #1 will be released on July 6, ahead of Titan’s third annual Doctor Who Comics Day event on Saturday, July 9.
