Joe Robert Cole May Script Marvel’s BLACK PANTHER Movie

Next year, Marvel’s Black Panther will make his live-action debut in Captain America: Civil War. And now, Marvel Studios has reportedly lined up a new screenwriter for Black Panther’s solo movie.

Joe Robert Cole (Amber Lake) is said to be in talks to write the new draft of Black Panther, after a previous draft by writer Mark Bailey. Cole has worked with Marvel Studios before on a draft for Inhumans, which may have made him the frontrunner for Black Panther.

However, Black Panther is still without a director. Marvel Studios openly courted Selma director Ava DuVernay to helm Black Panther, but she later revealed that she turned down Marvel’s offer over creative differences. Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray has also been rumored for Black Panther, but it appears that he may direct Furious 8; which would probably make him unavailable for Black Panther.

The only thing that we know for sure about the Black Panther movie is that Chadwick Boseman is playing the title role. Avengers: Age of Ultron also introduced Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaw, one of the Black Panther’s primary foes and a key figure in his origin story. Given Klaw’s importance to Black Panther, it would be surprising if he wasn’t in the movie as well.

Black Panther was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1966, and he was the first mainstream black superhero. Marvel recently announced that author and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates will write a new Black Panther ongoing series in 2016 as part of the All-New, All-Different Marvel relaunch.

The Black Panther movie will be released on July 6, 2018.

Comic fans, are you excited to hear that Cole may write the Black Panther movie? And who should direct Black Panther? Share your opinion in the comment section below!
