Joe Manganiello XXL, Cameron Esposito, Best-Seller Brad, Standups Clustering: This Week’s Podcasts

On the Nerdist Podcast Network this week:

Joe Manganiello is in Magic Mike XXL, so he came back to the Nerdist Podcast to talk about it, and about True Blood, and about working out (and how age plays into that), and about being in a very public celebrity relationship (with Sofia Vergara, in case you don’t check the tabloids or TMZ), and about voice work… and a little about being in the upcoming Netflix special Pee Wee’s Big Holiday.

How cool is it that when Cameron Esposito came by to record the Nerdist Podcast, it was on the very day the Supreme Court ruled on same-sex marriage? Perfect timing, and Cameron, a brilliant comedian, took advantage of the opportunity to have a frank and fascinating conversation about being gay and in a relationship with another comedian, the role of gender in comedy, and dealing with Internet hate. (This episode was yet to post at this writing (Friday midday); it’s coming, and, yes, it’s posting in place of the one with Leo Laporte, which IS coming, just not this week. Last-minute changes and all that. Sorry for the delay, but it’s all coming soon, and thanks for your patience….)

Brad Meltzer, who does everything, returned to the Nerdist Podcast behind his new book In the President’s Shadow and his latest children’s book I Am Lucille Ball and his TV show Decoded and… yeah, he does everything. He and Chris bonded over Miami and video games, and Brad talked about meeting presidents, which not everyone gets to do, you know.

Oh, and if you missed the third Nerdist Stand-Up Cluster live, we brought it to you on a special bonus Nerdist Podcast with Baron Vaughn, Megan Neuringer, Kyle Clark, Cameron Esposito, Carlos Delgado, Dave Thomason, Al Jackson, Sara Schaefer and James Adomian. You will laugh a lot.

More: CliffyB — game designer Cliff Bleszinski, but you knew that — dropped by for a visit with The Indoor Kids (actually, just Kumail, but Emily was in the intro).

Comic Tim McGovern joined Razzle and Dan for facts about pizza, grilled cheese, and non-food-related topics on Today We Learned.

Bob’s Burgers writer/producer Jon Schroeder told Gil all about what he does and about the show on The Mutant Season.

Kay Cannon, the writer of Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2, talked about her career, 30 Rock, and writing for TV and movies on Nerdist Writers Panel.

Saturday Night Live‘s Michael Che guested on You Made it Weird with Pete Holmes, and y’all got Prince’d. Oh, yes, you did.

Gabriel Diani — he of Diani and Devine, of Huck Finn with robots, of The Selling and Diani and Devine Meet The Apocalypse visited Janet on The JV Club as the Boys of Summer series continued.

Jess and Bowser did an entire episode of listener-submitted stories on Bizarre States.

Tom and John continued with the Walker family’s saga on another inspiring Pro You.

Kevin and Steve know you love lists, so they gave you the Funniest Movies Ever on a new Chewin’ It with Kevin and Steve.

Cash and T.J. once again handed matters over to listeners with another Worst Of Cashing In with T.J. Miller.

And Thrilling Adventure Hour brought you the show’s panel from last Fall’s Comikaze, featuring many of the WorkJuice Players.
