Jimmy Page is Going on Tour in 2016, Working on a New Album

Former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page hasn’t been on tour as a solo artist since 1998, but he will soon update his live resumé, as he recently revealed that he is in the process of putting a band together and preparing a tour for 2016, which he says will sound “totally different” from his Led Zeppelin days.

“There will be all sorts of material from different eras,” he said of the setlist. “Right across the board; that’s the way I’m seeing it. But like I said, there will be surprises. It won’t be entirely what people might be expecting.”

Page hasn’t revealed any of the band members or any more specifics of what we should expect from his setlists, but he did shed more light on both matters in a 2014 interview. Regarding his band, he said that “some of the names might be new to you.” About his setlist, he added, “If I went out to play, I would play material that spanned everything from my recording career right back to my very, very early days with The Yardbirds. There would certainly be some new material in there as well…”

Page hasn’t released a solo album since 1988’s Outrider, but he also said that he will release a new album in 2016 to coincide with his tour. Page has been away from both the studio and live venues for some time, but now he feels an urgency to perform, telling Billboard in 2014, “I haven’t got another 20-30 years left in me, so I really need to get out there and present myself the way that I like to present myself, and to be seen and be heard.”

What do you think Page’s setlists will sound like? How about his solo album? Speculate away in the comments!
