Jimmy Fallon Takes Us Back to Bayside with a SAVED BY THE BELL Reunion

Breakfast this morning was a flashback to elementary school as I flipped on my computer and found all the coolest kids from Bayside High reunited on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Fallon didn’t just manage to get Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Tiffani Theissen, Elizabeth Berkley, Mario Lopez and Dennis Haskins on stage in New York for an interview. He went straight back to the hallways of Bayside High and helped us get caught up with our favorite Saved By The Bell teenagers… all a little older and wearing a bit more makeup than we remember.

If you grew up in the late ’80s or early ’90s, there’s a good chance you just spent 8 minutes of your life giggling and maybe even pointing at the screen. Every cast member’s entrance was greeted with long applause breaks, they all put on the stonewashed denim, and the callbacks to individual episodes were priceless.

Surprising no one who has seen Mario Lopez on one of his many hosting gigs over the last 20 years, A.C. Slater dances just as well now as he did in 1989.

Jessie Spano is still really excited.

And Zack Morris still gets his high school girlfriend Kelly Kapowski pregnant! Wait. That didn’t happen in the 90s! But Theissen’s real life pregnancy clearly had to be explained if she was going to returns to that Bayside cheerleading uniform. Gossaleer’s perfectly timed Time Out and quip about running off to Vegas, getting married, and moving to California (Cough.. cough.. Beverly Hills?) was a spot on reference to the old show though, and the freeze frame smile before he timed back in was so perfect I giggled.

While Lisa Turtle (Lark Voorhies) and Screech Powers (Dustin Diamond) were nowhere to be seen in the reunion, Mr. Belding made an appearance and took to the PA system to give us all flashbacks to morning announcements and the occasional high school pranks.

Along with the classic Saved By The Bell story references, the cast and Fallon also got in a few real world jokes to keep the audience cackling. If you don’t know why everyone laughed at the idea of Jessie Spano turning into a stripper, you clearly haven’t seen 1995’s classic Showgirls. And if you’ve somehow missed the incredible story of Nicole Kidman nearly dating Jimmy Fallon – if only he had realized they were on a date – well, here’s the video footage to prove it.

Now excuse me while I go and rewatch this reunion another 8 times before work.

Am I the only one that thought, for a second, that Eric Stonestreet was playing Mr. Belding?

Mario Lopez, get back in your time machine and go back to 1991 before you meet your other self. I swear the guy hasn’t aged in 25 years.
