For far too long there’s been a whole generation of young people out there who have no idea who Jiminy Glick is, a travesty that came to an end thanks to Maya Rudolph and Martin Short‘s variety show, Maya and Marty, which premiered this past Tuesday on NBC. If you are one of those that have never seen the famous Hollywood interviewer at work before, the one with the ever-changing voice and penchant for “praising” his guests with the worst veiled insults ever, you can see him in all his “glory” here in an interview with Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s Larry David.
It was a contentious conversation that, somewhat predictably, ended with them in a fight. A little less predictable was just how anti-Semitic it was.
We don’t want to spoil this for you too much, because if you know about Martin Short’s Jiminy Glick character you won’t be surprised by how funny this was, and if you’ve never seen Glick before you deserve a chance to experience him on your own, but I will say this had me laughing out loud multiple times. Larry David is the perfect curmudgeon foil to call out Glick’s awfulness wrapped in a big friendly smile.
We’re thrilled to see Short and Rudolph bringing back Jiminy, who first debuted (get ready to feel old!) on The Martin Short Show, which was on for one season in 1999-2000. Jiminy Glick got a longer run though, with the spin-off series Primetime Glick that lasted a little longer, from 2001-2003, and he has popped up sporadically since then.
But we’re glad to have him back on the big stage, because even if he is the worst, he’s still really funny.
