Jessica Lange to Cover Lana Del Rey on AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW

Back in 2012, one of the stand-out moments (of which there were many) in the first follow-up tale to FX’s American Horror Story, American Horror Story: Asylum, was when Jessica Lange turned the awesome dial to eleven as she belted out a rendition of Shirley Ellis’ classic track, “The Name Game”. The scene was so memorable, in fact, that many fans were left dismayed when realizing the next season, American Horror Story: Coven, wouldn’t feature any ludicrous moments of Constance breaking out into song. However, though our desires to hear Lange were unfulfilled last year, showrunner Ryan Murphy has announced coyly via twitter that Lange will belt once again in the upcoming season of the hit anthology drama. And the artist choice is certainly an interesting one:

Of course now the question moves to two quandaries:

1) Which Del Rey song will be featured on the show? Perhaps something from her smoky new album Ultraviolence, or maybe an older track like “Blue Jeans”?

2) In what context will this possibly take place?

We could spend hours pondering which track we want to see Lange break into on the show, but what strikes as more interesting is how it will happen. In Asylum, the musical number occurred as a result of Judy’s electroshock therapy, and it took a reminder of her own name to be snapped out of it. It’s hard to imagine any kind of electro-shock treatment happening in Freak Show, but perhaps a drug induced musical number is in store, perhaps a performance with all the freaks working to entertain a bored crowd. There’s a lot of spooky potential for this one, especially given the fact that Del Rey already channeled her inner zombie for her infamously lifeless SNL performance.

American Horror Story: Freak Show premieres October 8 at 10/9c on FX.

Maybe she’ll sing “fucked my way up to the top”… Hey it goes with the story so far! Hahaha the part where it says “this is my show” I could imagine her singing to Bette and Dot, since they’re supposed to be singing… Anyone catch my drift? I Dunno my friend said it’s gonna be sad girl. If she’s singing off ultraviolence I hope she sings shades of cool, that’s my favorite haha

    the other woman maybe

    • nikita Florence says:

Probably not considering the other woman was sung by nina simone so it’s not an original lana song. Its was a good idea and makes sense

    Serial Killer.

  5. Aldrea says:

I haven’t watched this series but I had the Banana song scene explained to me, so I’m going to guess Body Electric.  It’s about someone who’s lost their mind and has ‘imaginary’ friends.

    • J says:

I don’t think it’s Body Electric because one of the lyrics in the first verse says “Elvis is my daddy”. This season takes place in 1952 and Elvis started his career in 1954.
