JESSICA JONES’ Showrunner Hired 13 Women Directors and Has a 50/50 Crew

When it comes to shows that changed the game in the overstuffed superhero genre, few come to mind, and one stands head and shoulders above the rest: Marvel’s Jessica Jones. The Netflix series’ freshman installment blew our minds and helped an entire generation of women deal with their trauma (and it gave us the creepiest Nice Guy version of David Tennant ever).

Now in its second season, premiering March 8 on Netflix, the Melissa Rosenberg-led, Krysten Ritter-fronted series is serving up another mind-blowing achievement: they comprised their crew of a 50/50 gender split, and on top of that hired an all-female director team for their 13 new episodes. So we sat down with the amazing woman running the show, Melissa Rosenberg, and talked all about that, season two, and more.

Oh, and she also gave us the visual of Wonder Woman and Jessica in a room together, which: yes please?

Like what you saw there? Interested in more discussions with, by, and about women, where everyone—yes, everyone (and yes, even you!)—is invited to nerd out about science and culture, talk about what matters, learn new things, nerd out over history, meet awesome ladies, and feel all your myriad feelings from a decidedly different point of view? Well let me go out on a limb and say that Fangirling is for you! And this season, we’ve got a heaping helping of everything you could want, every Wednesday on Alpha.

Besides, you’re not going to want to miss our fabulous guests, like Phoebe Robinson talking Game of Thrones in the Khaleesi Korner, Blue Planet II producer Orla Doherty, a spotlight on artist Jen Bartel, or our regular segments like “Worst Advice,” “Mansplain It to Me,” and “Real Fake Spoilers”!
