Jeremy Renner Broke Both His Arms Filming a Comedy Alongside AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

In a scenario that would seem a lot like method acting if it weren’t so much to the detriment of the actor, Jeremy Renner has broken both his arms while shooting the comedy Tag, which he’s been shooting alongside the in-production Avengers: Infinity War. As Renner gamely put it, “That’s how it goes. That’s part of the job.”

Renner doesn’t seem to think the injury will get in the way of his work on Avengers nor on Tag. Despite this incident Renner told Variety that the Tag role “isn’t really requiring a lot of stunts.”

Comic readers are well aware that Clint “Hawkeye” Barton is a bit of a walking disaster. That’s never had too much impact on Renner’s portrayal of the character in the past; given the rigorous workout schedule he swears by when filming both MCU flicks and Mission: Impossible movies, the guy’s pretty sturdy. Heck, there’s an entire Tumblr dedicated to the glory of his arms.

And that’s a good thing, given the extent of his injuries. Here’s the rundown: in the midst of performing a stunt (which Renner unsurprisingly did not describe in detail), the actor fractured his right elbow and left wrist, injuries that’d have anyone laid up for a bit. But that doesn’t seem to affect Renner, since he doesn’t “have to beat a whole lot of people up or do anything crazy” on Tag. (Sounds pretty par for the course for Renner.) He may not be able to tie his shoes, he says, but he can “kind of get by.”

After Infinity War wraps, Renner is slated to star in another installment of the Bourne franchise, for which he’ll likely be performing another battery of stunts. We wish Movie Hawkguy good luck, godspeed, and speedy healing for his own sake and the sake of virtually every action franchise in existence.
