Jennifer Lawrence Scores Hit Song With ‘The Hanging Tree,’ Off The MOCKINGJAY Score

In case you weren’t already aware, this is Jennifer Lawrence‘s world and we’re all just living in it. The latest example of the young actress’ awesomeness? Oh, she just scored her first Top 20 pop hit with the song “The Hanging Tree” from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.

NBD.

The non-Lorde movie score containing “The Hanging Tree” was released on November 24 and Lawrence’s song has officially landed at the #12 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the Digital Songs chart, selling 200,000 copies. Watch out T-Swift, J-Law is on the move for that #1 spot.

The haunting hymn was co-written by Hunger Games scribe Suzanne Collins and two dudes from The Lumineers, drummer Jeremiah Fraites and singer/guitarist Wesley Schultz.

After listening to “The Hanging Tree” on repeat, we have one question: Is there anything J. Law CAN’T do??

She acts! She sings! She dances!

Her voice is actually gorgeous and we’d totally be down with hearing more of it. Perhaps Ms. Katniss has caught the singing bug and she’ll decide to lay down some more tracks. Hell, she’s already 1/4th of the way towards achieving EGOT status!

For those unfamiliar with “EGOT,” it stands for “Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony” and very few entertainers have scored ALL those accolades. Members of the club include Audrey Hepburn, composer Marvin Hamlisch, and Mel Brooks.

She’s already got an Oscar, so if Lawrence really hunkered down, she could become the youngest member of the esteemed circle. Currently, that honor goes to the dude who wrote “Let It Go” for Frozen and he’s 36.

The score and the Lorde-curated soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, are both out now.
