Today’s Movie Morsels is eclectic with a capital “E”! How else to describe something that features a thrilling new clip from Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt‘s Passengers, the debut of a song from the Emma Stone/Ryan Gosling musical La La Land, and a trailer for the Amblin-esque sci-fi adventure comedy Monster Trucks? Plus, much more! So get ready to dive in, key up, and start your engine…
Passengers
Surf’s up! The latest clip from this December’s sci-fi thriller Passengers shows something I don’t think I’ve ever seen before: an entire swimming pool full of water stuck in zero gravity. Unfortunately, Jennifer Lawrence is caught right smack dab in the middle of it and is having a devil of a time swimming out of it! But don’t worry. I can’t help but think Chris Pratt is working on restoring that ol’ gravity even as we speak… Of course, I can’t speak to the scientific accuracy of this scene. Can any physicists out there offer some perspective on the situation?

La La Land
Wanna hear Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling croon a tune from their new holiday musical La La Land? Then give a listen to the following duet “City of Stars,” one of the film’s signature songs. Gosling’s voice sounds passable in a kind of ’90s indie folk rock way, but Stone, a veteran of stage musicals like Cabaret, has a genuinely lovely soprano that reminds me more than a little of Zooey Deschanel’s…
Monster Trucks
In the tradition of such Steven Spielberg-produced hits as E.T., Gremlins, and Transformers comes Monster Trucks, the story of a boy and the otherworldly visitor he befriends. Only in this case, the boy is TV’s new MacGyver, Lucas Till, and the visitor is a tentacled alien who lives in the chasse of his truck?! Hey, I’m sure it’ll all make sense when the film opens on January 13th. And if it doesn’t, well, let’s just hope it’s so ridiculous it’s genius…
Before I Fall
I’m gonna be honest with you folks: Zoey Deutch makes me feel old as dirt. I mean, I remember seeing Some Kind of Wonderful, starring her mom Lea Thompson (as a high school student) and directed by her dad Howard Deutch, in a theater like it was friggin’ yesterday. Yeesh! If you’re too young to know what I’m talking about, then good for you. In any case, enjoy the trailer for Before I Fall. It’s a decidedly more dramatic variation on Groundhog Day, and based on the 2010 novel of same name by Lauren Oliver. And it finds Deutch’s character reliving the last day of her life over and over and over again…
Incarnate
Finally today, the award for creepiest Mannequin Challenge video ever goes to…Â Incarnate! Yes, the Blumhouse thriller starring Aaron Eckhart and touted as “the first movie that uses science to take on demonic possession” gets an unnerving promo video that’s sure to start your weekend off with a few fun chills.
