Jennifer Jason Leigh Joins TWIN PEAKS Cast in Mystery Role

David Lynch and Mark Frost’s Showtime revival of Twin Peaks is adding yet another high-profile name to the series that wasn’t associated with the original show—this time it’s award-winning actress Jennifer Jason Leigh. Leigh’s perhaps best known for her roles in indie films like Georgia and Last Exit to Brooklyn, as well as memorable turns in more mainstream fare like Single White Female and Dolores Claiborne. Her big breakthrough role (along with several other eventual big-name actors) was in the ’80s teen movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High. She most recently completed work on Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight.

Leigh is joining other Twin Peaks newcomers like Amanda Seyfried, Balthazar Getty, and Prison Break‘s Robert Knepper. Actor Peter Sarsgaard was also going to be joining the cast, but scheduling conflicts seemed to have prevented his involvement for now. The original report also says that Lynch is looking for even more name-y actors to join the crew—including Naomi Watts, who got her initial big break in Lynch’s Mulholland Drive.

News of Leigh’s involvement broke when paparazzi photos turned up in the UK’s Daily Mail from a night shoot in the Mojave Desert earlier this week. The photos show what looks to be an old, out of the way motel (big fat SPOILERS for the show from here on out, so tread with care spoiler-phobes), and also show Kyle MacLachlan’s Agent Cooper dressed kind of sleazily, looking decidedly un-Cooper-like. Of course, Agent Cooper could be undercover…or, this is Coop’s evil BOB-infused doppleganger? An even bigger spoiler is that along with MacLachlan and Leigh, also on the set was actress Sheryl Lee—best known as the original series’ very dead homecoming queen Laura Palmer. Say what??

Lynch and Frost have been keeping very tight lipped about not only the plot of the new Twin Peaks, but also the cast additions, with almost all new cast members being confirmed not by Showtime, but by leaked set photos. Twin Peaks will be filming until May of next year, so it’ll be very interesting to see what other high profile names join the cast during that time.
