Jem Meets X-Men in Truly Outrageous Cosplay Mash-up

So you may or may not have heard, but last weekend, there was a movie that came out based on the ’80s animated series and toy line Jem and the Holograms. The reason you might not have heard of this movie is because it mega-bombed at the box office. If I’m coming across as enjoying the failure of the “Jem in name only” movie, it’s because I have special place in my heart for the classic cartoon, and while properties from that era aimed at boys (Transformers, GI Joe) all make it to the big screen with their concepts relatively intact, the “girl toy” movie becomes unrecognizable. Jem fans deserved better.

So, what’s an old school Jem fan to do now? Well, these fans of the classic Jem show have taken their love of the over-the-top, ’80s pop music glamour of Jem and the Holograms and mashed them together with Marvel’s female X-Men characters, and created this amazing cosplay photo series. Based on artwork done by Rage Gear Studios, “Jaz and the Hardlight Projections” was created by the Skirts and Swords cosplay team together with Greg De Stefano Photography, and the results are, dare we say, truly outrageous.

The series of photos showcase Meredith Placko as Jaz (Jem/Dazzler), Alicia Marie as Orana (Storm/Shana), ChubbyBunny Michelle as Beja (Psylocke/Aja), Yume Ninja as Kimarie (Rogue/Kimber) and Emma Fyffe (Jubilee/Raya). I for one hope these young women continue the cosplay saga of Jaz and Hardlight Projections. I know I’d love to see a Jean Grey/Synergy mash-up. And how about the Misfits? I can see it already: Polaris/Pizzazz, Emma Frost/Roxy, and Surge/Stormer. Make it happen, ladies.

You can watch a behind-the-scenes video of the Jaz and the Hardlight Projections photoshoot above, and for a good look at the individual photos, check out the gallery below:
