Film Independent has announced the next movie in their Live Read series, and oh boy, it’s something special. They’ll be visiting The Empire Strikes Back. The film is often the top choice when people are asked to name their favorite installment of Star Wars, and the timing couldn’t be more perfect. I’m excited to hear who director Jason Reitman recruits for this Live Read session. If you’re not familiar with the Live Read series, here are the basics: Reitman assembles a group of actors and they sit down in front of a live audience and read a famous screenplay cold. In the past, they’ve tackled screenplays for The Princess Bride, The Usual Suspects, American Beauty, and Groundhog Day among many others.
As mentioned, the cast for the event hasn’t been determined yet. Considering that past participants include Patton Oswalt, Mae Whitman, Jason Bateman, Phil LaMarr, and Timothy Olyphant, you’ll likely be in good hands if you attend. Look at this poster for the event by Matt Owen:
The Empire Strikes Back Live Read takes place on December 18th at 8:00pm. Tickets for the event are on sale now for Film Independent members only, and if you’re thinking about going, I recommend purchasing them as quickly as possible if not sooner. Prices start at $25. Not a member of Film Independent? You can remedy that for $95. This event will be at The Theatre at Ace Hotel rather than LACMA, so plan accordingly.
Who will be attending the Live Read and if so, can you please bring me via hologram?
