Four years ago, Netflix pulled off an improbable resurrection by reuniting the cast of Arrested Development for a fourth season seven years after the series was canceled by Fox. It’s taken nearly half a decade to get everyone back together again, but the fifth season of Arrested Development is about to begin filming. And nowâfresh off his starring role in the Netflix original drama, OzarkâJason Bateman has tweeted out an image of the famous Bluth homestead as the plastic is pulled away. According to Bateman, the new season of Arrested Development will begin production on August 8.

When the fourth season ended, Bateman’s Michael Bluth was at odds with his son, George-Michael (Michael Cera) over a young woman named Rebel (Isla Fisher). But a more pressing matter for the family was that Buster Bluth (Tony Hale) had been arrested for the apparent murder of Lucille Austero (Liza Minnelli). Earlier this month, Bateman indicated that Lucille’s death and the identity of her murderer would be one of the central plotlines for the new season.
“The central spine of that story of is the death of Liza Minnelliâs character, and a bit of whodunit,” explained Bateman during his appearance on Entertainment Weekly Radio. “That’s sort of a central thread around which [Mitch Hurwitz] is going to braid in all the colorful plot complications that he knows how to do.”
One of the more exciting elements of the new season is that the cast reportedly won’t be as segregated as they were in the first season; which means we should be able to see more of the Bluth family interacting with each other, and we’re all for that.
