Jared Leto’s Going to Be in BLADE RUNNER 2

Jared Leto’s Going to Be in BLADE RUNNER 2

This seems a particularly strange turn of events—especially given the actor’s recent statement of “F**k ’em!”—but it would appear that the tiff between Jared Leto and Warner Bros didn’t last too long after all. Deadline is reporting Leto has been cast in Alcon Entertainment’s hotly anticipated Blade Runner 2, which is due out in October of next year. There’s no word yet on who Leto will play in director Denis Villeneuve‘s follow-up to Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi masterpiece, but he’ll be joining actors Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Dave Bautista and Harrison Ford reprising his role of Rick Deckard.

While we have no information beyond that he’s just been cast, the fact that Leto is still working with Warner Bros. following his perceived slighting in the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad, where his version of the Joker features mainly in flashback and a side plot that gets largely abandoned after a certain point. The eccentric actor made news during filming with his Jokerish antics which seemed overboard given his small screentime in the finished film. However, things must have been patched up sufficiently to join another major film from the same studio.

I could easily see Leto playing a replicant antagonist in the new film, not unlike the character of Roy Batty as played by Rutger Hauer in the original. He’s certainly got the intensity down and has no problem playing bad guys who seem more inhuman than human. However, it might be more fun to see him play a softer, more sympathetic character who might be an ally to Gosling, something to offset his enormous Joker visage.
