Japanese POKÉMON SUN and MOON Trailer May Reveal New Battle Mode

We’ve been so busy with Pokémon Go that we nearly forgot that Pokémon Sun and Moon, the upcoming installments in the main line of Pokémon games, are coming this November. A new Japanese trailer for the game has been revealed, and it sheds light on a few more details about the games.

What stuck out to us immediately is what appears to be the inclusion of what appears to be a timed Multi Battle. Multi Battles have been a playable game mode since Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, but they seem to have been more of an afterthought than a main feature. Plus, Multi Battles have traditionally been double battles, with two players teaming up against the other two, but it appears that this time around, Multi Battles will be true, four-way contests, with no teams in a free-for-all format.

The trailer also shows the player riding a Tauros in what appears to be some sort of race mode, although its function could also be more similar to the rideable Pokémon featured in Pokémon X and Y, which were mainly used to traverse difficult terrain.

Also, in case you missed it yesterday, a couple new Pokémon were revealed in Japanese magazine CoroCoro (via Serebii.net): the Normal/Fighting-type Kiteruguma and the Ghost/Fairy-type Mimicyu.

According to Serebii.net:

“People in Alola are scared of Kiteruguma to the point of having warning signs about it. It is really strong and can break anything in two. It likes to hug its trainers but is strong. Raising one puts your life in danger.”

“Mimicyu hates sunlight, preferring dark places. It is rumoured that the cloth covering its body is a strategy to avoid the sun. Don’t try to remove the cloth it is said that those that do become afflicted with an illness. Mimicyu’s costume is based on Pikachu merch that was popular 20 years ago. It wants to be loved by people like Pikachu is.”

Between this and Pokémon Go, we’re almost Pokémon’d out… except not even close, because we’re way too excited about our upcoming Pokémon Go Meet-Up in Los Angeles. Sorry, every other game, but being the very best like no one ever was is hard work.
