James Gunn Teases GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 on His Instagram

Director James Gunn has given us a first look at Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and shockingly, it looks like he’ll be going with a Team America-puppet style adaptation. Or he just used some toys to have some fun with us.

Let’s go with the theory that the movie will be shot the same way as the first—you know, with real people and CGI’ed raccoons and trees that make me cry—and that this picture is just a humorous way to give us some information so that we may wildly speculate (the best kind of speculation).

Not surprisingly, it looks like Karen Gillan will be returning to play Nebula, Gamora’s blue, machine-modified sister (her status was unknown at the end of the first film). The big bad, Thanos—who was voiced by an un-credited Josh Brolin in the first movie—also looks to be returning. Both characters were fairly easy-to-return predictions, as Nebula managed to escape from the big battle on Xandar, and Drax said that revenge for his wife and daughter still required him to kill Thanos.

The real interesting part of the picture though is the presence of Lee Pace’s Ronan. Ronan sure did appear to be blown out of existence at the end of the first movie. Could we be seeing him resurrected in the sequel? Who would have more to fear from Thanos than Ronan?

As for the tribble-esque fluffy thing, I am sure it will be some talking creature that does something heroic to make me an emotional mess. Or I suppose it’s nothing and my speculation is a little out-of-control.

So what other guesses do you have for the sequel? Thoughts on Quill’s father? Let us know. (We will not be able to translate “I am Groot” so don’t bother.)
