James Gunn Says CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is “One of the Best Marvel Movies Ever”

Back in the summer of 2014, writer/director James Gunn delivered arguably the best of Marvel Studios’ initial twelve films with Guardians of the Galaxy. So when he says that the upcoming Captain America: Civil War is all kinds of awesome and everything fans are hoping it would be, we should all probably start getting appropriately excited. After all, this is the man who brought Groot and Rocket Raccoon to life — you know he means it when he says “It’s one of the best Marvel movies ever.”

After seeing an early screening of the film, Gunn revealed his reactions to fans during a live video Q&A on Facebook. He said, “I saw Civil War and I think it’s incredible; It’s one of the best Marvel movies ever, and I can’t believe what a wonderful job [directors Joe and Anthony Russo] did. And the cast. Oh my God, they’re so good. So it’s an amazing film and people are going to be really excited to see that come summertime.”

One of the biggest question marks surrounding Civil War is the inclusion of Spider-Man, now played by British actor Tom Holland, who is making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with this film. On Holland’s debut performance as Peter Parker, Gunn said, “I’m trying to think about what is cool to say or not. But I will say this one thing. Tom Holland is…off-the-charts awesome. Off. The. Charts. Awesome. Off the charts. Truly. Hand to my heart, he’s amazing.”

And if all that isn’t enough to get the die-hard Marvel fans out there counting down the days till Civil War premieres, I’m not sure what will.

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6, 2016.
