James Franco’s THE DISASTER ARTIST Drops Its First Teaser Trailer

In 2003, it seemed like Tommy Wiseau‘s The Room would forever be looked at as a failure. Wiseau infamously wrote, directed, and starred in The Room, which was met by a tepid box office response and critical maligning. But over time, The Room has become a classic staple of midnight cinema for its unintentionally hilarious dialogue and performances. Now the story behind the so-called “Citizen Kane of bad movies” is coming to the big screen in James Franco‘s The Disaster Artist.

The Disaster Artist was based upon the book of the same title by Greg Sestero, the co-star and line producer of The Room. James Franco is directing and starring as Wiseau, while Franco’s brother, Dave Franco, is playing Sestero. Seth Rogen is also headlining the cast as Sandy Schklair, the script supervisor of The Room. The first teaser trailer for The Disaster Artist recreates one of The Room‘s classic scenes as Franco’s Wiseau struggles to remember the words that he wrote for himself. By the end, the cast and crew knows Wiseau’s lines better than he does!

It’s really funny to see the crew celebrate Wiseau’s one usable take at the end. Hey, you have to take your triumphs where you can find them! Additionally, A24 has debuted the first poster for The Disaster Artist, which also revisits this moment from the story.

While The Disaster Artist will chronicle the very troubled production of The Room, it will also explore what happened to Wiseau and Sestero after the movie became an unlikely underground hit. The Disaster Artist also has a very impressive supporting cast including Josh Hutcherson, Alison Brie, Zac Efron, Hannibal Buress, Melanie Griffith, Sharon Stone, and Jacki Weaver.

The Disaster Artist will hit theaters on December 1st, but we’re hoping that someone lines up a double bill of The Room and The Disaster Artist for the opening night!

Normally, this is where we would ask you for your comments. But this time, we want to see your favorite quotes from The Room, Wiseau-style!
