James Franco’s Band Daddy Shares Haunting New Wave Song “You Are Mine”

James Franco sure does do a lot of stuff, and music, being one of his most overlooked endeavors, is actually one of the things that he does best. To recap, he introduced his band Daddy — a duo comprised of Franco and Tim O’Keefe — with a psychedelic soul song called “Love In The Old Days” three years ago, and it was a totally competent and downright enjoyable debut.

Then, around this time last year, Daddy popped up again with a The Smiths-inspired song (not a cover) called “This Charming Man”, which actually features The Smiths’ Andy Rourke on bass. The track is the first from a full The Smiths-inspired album, which is called Let Me Get What I Want and should be out by the spring.

Today, Daddy has shared a new track from the album, a dark new wave-leaning song called “You Are Mine.”

“High school is a time of longing for the unattainable,” Franco told Rolling Stone about the song. “We dream big, but we’re still too young to make anything significant happen. At least I was too immature and sensitive to be the person I wanted to be. ‘You Are Mine’ is about one teenager dreaming about another, even though they’ll never be together.”

The album will also be accompanied by an hour-long film that will be a visual companion to the record.
