James Franco Goes Carrie Bradshaw, Walter White, and Jon Snow in New MAKING A SCENE Trailer

James Franco’s a man of many hats, most of them ill-fitting and laughably ostentatious. He’s starred in critically beloved cult sitcoms, easygoing stoner comedies, Oscar-nominated prestige pictures, and everything in between. But to constrain himself to the realm of acting would be a tragic squandering of Mr. Franco’s estimable talents; no, he must also bring his genius to the world of literature, via his book of imaginary conversations with Lana Del Rey and his poems about the music of the Smiths. He’s become a filmmaker in his own right, mounting a pair of misguided high-literary adaptations in As I Lay Dying and The Sound And The Fury, and the threat of a Charles Bukowski (the mere mention of the writer’s very name gets MFA students salivating like a Pavlov dog) biopic looming on the horizon.

With all that peripheral nonsense swirling around his career, it’s easy to forget that Franco’s a hell of an actor when he’s got a straight-shooting director to keep him under control. Or, alternately, when he’s got a comic premise with enough charm and loony fun to back him up. Franco gets just that in the newly released trailer for the second season of his AOL webseries Making A Scene With James Franco. Nerdist’s own Alicia Lutes was a great fan of the program’s first season, in which Franco reimagined scenes from classic movies mashed up with one another, or with an entirely new genre.

For Season Two, Franco will turn his attentions to TV, putting his unmistakably Francoesque spin on such adored programs as Sex and the City, Game of Thrones, and Breaking Bad. And in cross-breeding these already-iconic properties with the imposed sets of aesthetic markers that constitute genre, he will continue his postmodern campaign of oh god I can’t keep this up, god only knows how Franco says it all with a straight face.
