Comedy magic inevitability sprouts when people like James Corden, Jordan Peele and Nick Kroll get together. The three comedic powerhouses introduced us to their late ’90s boy band on a recent episode of The Late Late Show and we were not prepared for how much we’d actually want the group to be a reality.
They presented the segment as a parody of a Behind the Music style documentary of the trio’s explicit boy band named Thr33way and their rise to (and fall from) stardom. Their goal was to cut through all the subtlety and innuendo of popular love songs by groups like *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees in order to deliver a clearer–and more sexually explicit–message. Corden and company sing “I Want A Three Way” and “Quit Playing Games (With My Penis)” in place of the Backstreet Boys counterparts and openly admit they ripped off Hanson with their pop hit, “MMMBoobs.”
Unfortunately Thr33way’s success faded quickly due to a barrage of lawsuits from just about everyone they borrowed from and a condemning Extra interview that outed the trio’s sexual inexperience. Truly a sad end to a boy band that could have gone on to do great things int he contemporary music landscape. Just imagine what they could have done with the already explicit “It Wasn’t Me” from 2000.
What songs do you wish Thr33way could have covered? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
